One of the best planned communities in Myrtle Beach is Market Common. Formerly a military base, years ago, this area is now a coveted place to live and play. Developers did a good planning job on this community that has a small town feel.
Homes in Market Common are varied. There are raised beachy homes, homes that mimic Charleston historic homes, Brownstone looking townhomes, condos, apartments, single family track homes and an over 55+ community of single family homes. These homes are positioned in various villages throughout the area off of Farrow Parkway.
In the center of the community is the walkable streetscape that includes boutiques, restaurants, a bowling alley, movie theater and a book store. Restaurants vary from seafood, sushi and Italian! The weekends have some sort of farmers market, art show or vendors fair hosted at the adjoining open spaces and parks.
Market Common is an active community with a 114 acre walkable lake, playgrounds, such as Savannah’s playground. The community also features a YMCA and ball fields for the various recreational sports for kids and adults.
This particular Myrtle Beach community is pet friendly and golf cart friendly, so if you are interested in the golf cart lifestyle, Market Common is a good consideration. The local residents know how to get to Myrtle Beach State Park in the golf cart as you are allowed to cross over route 17 on a golf cart.
Publix grocery store moved in to serve this area and has frontage on Bypass 17. The Surfside beach box stores are close by such as Target, Kohls, Lowes Home Improvement and Walmart within about a mile from the backside of Market Common.
Market Common is situated between Business 17 and Bypass 17 and the next turn down off of Bypass 17 is the Myrtle Beach Airport (MYR) which is the old airfield for the Military Base that was there decades ago. It is now a full service, 1 terminal airport.
This planned community is a good central location and home values have held their own through up and down markets. As a Myrtle Beach area real estate agent, I consider housing in Market Common to be a good buy and a good sell with value added.
